da pixbet: Manchester United are showing an interest in signing Atletico Madrid winger Thomas Lemar, as has been suggested by Julien Laurens in conversation with ESPN.
da aposte e ganhe: It was said that the Red Devils representatives have “met with his people”, and while Laurens did insist this doesn’t confirm that the that they will be signing him, he outlined that this does show a definite interest in bringing him in.
The amount that Atletico will be commanding for the 24-year-old is unknown, after he has had an underwhelming time since joining them from AS Monaco in the summer of 2018.
There will be doubts about whether United should move for him due to his struggles during this period, but hope will remain as a result of the quality that was on show before then.
With this in mind, FFC writers have given their verdicts about whether United should make the move for Lemar.
Jack Saville
“Given Thomas Lemar’s record at Atletico Madrid, a Manchester United move looks incredibly misguided from the Red Devils’ perspective.
“Lemar has scored just three goals and provided six assists since swapping Monaco for the Spanish capital in July 2018 – a simply woeful return for a player who cost £52.7m.
“However, even with those stats in mind, it’s far too soon to write him off at the top level and United could be the perfect place for him to reignite his career.
“It’s clear that he isn’t compatible with Diego Simeone’s style of play, but in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s system, he could rediscover the form that earned him a move to Atletico in the first place. The prospect of seeing Lemar in full flow alongside the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes is a truly frightening one which has the capacity to strike fear into some of Europe’s most resolute defensive units.
“A natural left-footer, Lemar would offer something unique at United – whether it be from the left or right side of the attack – and add another game-changer to Solskjaer’s armoury.
“Sceptics will, of course, view United’s interest in Lemar with contempt, but this could be a brilliantly calculated gamble from Ed Woodward.”

“This has all the hallmarks to be another transfer disaster from Woodward. Lemar has lost his touch during a torrid stint at Atletico Madrid – to cost £52.7m and then return only three goals and six assists in 67 appearances is quite frankly abysmal.
“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has options on the left flank in Martial and Rashford, and even the returning Alexis Sanchez this summer, so a move for the French flop seems a little unnecessary.
“Man Utd have somewhat been enjoying a resurgence since the arrival of Fernandes, but landing Lemar may well put pay to that and undo all of the Norwegian’s hard work this season. There are better options out there, so there is no need to downgrade to a Lidl Martial.”

“Manchester United have operated effectively in the transfer market in the last two windows, and I would trust Solskjaer’s judgement in regard to his interest in Lemar.
“As mentioned above, he may not have the best productivity rate in the final third, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be able to influence proceedings at Old Trafford.
“The Red Devils have lacked a natural left-winger this season and by bringing in Lemar, Rashford and Martial could concentrate on leading the line, while the Frenchman’s pace would also add to United’s quick attack, with Dan James also providing danger on the counter-attack like the aforementioned pair.
“Solskjaer has proven he can get the best out of players, with Fred currently thriving, and if Lemar can rediscover his form at Monaco, where he scored nine and assisted 10 in 2016/17, then he could be another bright spark for Man Utd.”
Danny Lewis
“Being a winger under Solskjaer and Simeone is a completely different concept. The latter demands defensive solidity from everyone in the team – as indicated by Saul Niguez and Angel Correa making seven and four clearances respectively against Liverpool, despite playing on the wings.
“On the other hand, Solskjaer favours an attacking approach, that will allow Lemar to thrive by hitting spaces behind defences and using his pace to link up with the talented attackers that are already among United’s ranks.
“Hindsight shows that Lemar making the move to Madrid was a massive mistake, but he is still young enough for it not to be a career-defining one – even if it has put the brakes on his development for now.
“There is a level of risk attached to signing any player who may be low on confidence after a tough spell, but the Frenchman may just prove to be worth it.”
