da poker: The Southampton boss has confirmed that new signing Mohammed Salisu will be missing from the match day squad against Everton on Sunday. Ralph Hasenhuttl revealed to Hampshire Live that the 21-year-old will be forced to wait even longer for his Saints debut due to a mysterious issue.
da pinup bet: “One was physically fit and the other one was not. That’s why it takes a little bit longer for the other one,” the Austrian said when asked about Salisu and Ibrahima Diallo, who has already made his first appearance for his new club. “There are some bigger issues that we had with him [Salisu]. These issues will last a little bit longer.”
The centre-back is still dealing with a problem he picked up last season whilst still with Real Valladolid. although it has never been clear whether it is an injury or something else. It will come as frustrating news for fans though, who are eager to see their new signing make his mark. Perhaps they even deserve to know more about what is going on.
Mohammed Salisu could be the way forward
Hasenhuttl is currently limited to just three fit senior centre-backs on his roster. Whilst they haven’t started the season poorly by any means, Southampton’s strong attack should be matched by an equally solid defence. The south coast side have conceded nine goals so far and scored eight, and whilst those numbers are not to be sniffed at, there’s definitely room for improvement.
With a lot of speculation surrounding Jannik Vestergaard’s future too, a surprise January move could leave Southampton with even less options across the backline. Jack Stephens was recently dropped in favour of the Norwegian, with his performance in the 5-2 Spurs defeat seemingly the final straw for Hasenhuttl.
Facing league leaders Everton will be a tough task for the Saints, but they will do well to identify the positives from the potential absences of James Rodriguez and Seamus Coleman. They can also exploit Jordan Pickford’s error-prone ways by giving him an in-form Danny Ings to keep tabs on.
However, fans will be worried about defence and will hope that Salisu will finally make his debut next time round against Aston Villa.
In other news, Southampton made shrewd profit on Nathaniel Clyne just in the nick of time…
