da dobrowin: Chelsea have scored the second-most goals of any Premier League side this season, but when discussing their attacking verve, winger-forward Pedro isn’t the first name that comes to mind.
da esoccer bet: The Spain international struggled during his debut season at Stamford Bridge, but only footballers with immense natural pedigree make over 300 appearances for Barcelona and Pedro’s quality has become increasingly evident since Antonio Conte took the hot seat last summer.
Indeed, Diego Costa and Eden Hazard may be the standout names in Chelsea’s attack, but Pedro’s presence as the right-sided inside forward has been equally influential in the Blues’ title bid this season. That stood out last night as the 29-year-old won the penalty that eventually decided the 2-1 affair in west London – one of four fouls drawn, the joint-most of any player for either side, throughout the 90 minutes.
Furthermore, and further underlining his unsung status within the squad, the 5ft. 6″ attacker moved to right wing-back in the second half and managed to keep a leash on Leroy Sane, who entered the game off the back of five goals and two assists in his last nine Manchester City appearances, clocking up two tackles, two interceptions and two clearances.
A selfless player of immense quality prepared to undertake any role his manager asks of him, Pedro is a fantastic, if somewhat underappreciated, asset for the Premier League’s champions in waiting.
