da dobrowin： Everton have often been set up with a zonal marking approach when defensively battling set-pieces. This is something that has seen them concede an unrivalled amount over the last year, and it is surprising to see Marco Silva still settle for this questionable outlook.
As demonstrated by David Alexander, Silva’s zonal marking sets up with the likes of Michael Keane and Yerry Mina occupying the six-yard box, as they boast the biggest heights. There is then one man often blocking the low cross and a player out near the corner flag to stop the short one, which leaves plenty of space in around the box for the opposition.

This has been an issue of Silva’s for some time, as the former Watford man played a hand in the Hornets conceding 17 goals from set-pieces during his time there – the second most of the 2017-18 season.
If Silva is incapable of recognising such failing tactics or perhaps reluctantly keeps them, it will continue to mount the pressure on his shoulders.
