Noel Whelan has slated Leeds United’s approach to the January transfer window, as reported by Football Insider.
What did he say?
Leeds are yet to make a single signing during the winter window so far, despite the fact that over half of it has already gone by.
They have been linked with various names, including Che Adams, Jarrod Bowen and Andre Gray, but none of those moves have come to fruition as of yet.
There are still hopes that Adams can be signed, a deal for Bowen has not been reached because of Leeds’ proposed structure, while they have been priced out of a loan deal for Gray.

Speaking about their window so far, Whelan said: “The fact of the matter is that we shouldn’t always, like we did with the Dan James, put all your eggs in one basket and that seems to be what we’ve done again.
“Now we’re in desperate need of a striker, I would have hoped that a plan would be in place and it wouldn’t still be grumbling on. We had this last season and last year – at deadline day we lost out on our one target.
“We’ve got rid of two loan signings in Jack Clarke and (Eddie) Nketiah so we’ve got money available for loans. There’s two lots of loan money there.”
Poor planning
Leeds haven’t spread their net very wide during this transfer window, despite Arsenal recalling Eddie Nketiah early in the window.
It seems as though they could pay the price for this, as their hopes could now be pinned solely on whether or not they are able to bring Adams to Elland Road.
Leeds have seen how costly this approach can be with James last year, as his transfer fell through late on, as shown in the Amazon documentary Leeds United: Take Us Home, via The Manchester Evening News.

The 1-0 loss against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday offered a reminder that Marcelo Bielsa’s side can’t afford to come out of this window empty-handed, as Patrick Bamford had a penalty saved and missed the target with four of his six shots, but there were no options to replace him.
The next couple of weeks could prove to be integral in Leeds’ push to get back into the Premier League.
