da bet7k: According to Sky Sports News, Southampton are confident that they will be able to sign Monaco forward Guido Carrillo during the January transfer window.
What’s the story?
da betobet: Last week, it was reported that Southampton had made a £17.5m bid for Carrillo in a bid to ease their troubles in the final third of the field.
Indeed, the Saints are currently without their leading scorer Charlie Austin through injury, whilst the likes of Shane Long and Manolo Gabbiadini have struggled during the 2017-18 season.
According to Sky Sports News, there is genuine interest from Southampton in Carrillo, and the club will press ahead with the view to completing a deal this month.
It remains to be seen whether Mauricio Pellegrino will be given the chance to turn things around at St Mary’s following a difficult campaign to date.
The Argentine appears to be pressing ahead with transfer targets, however, and there is money in the bank following the £75m sale of Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool earlier this month.
Is Carrillo the answer for Southampton?
Carrillo, 26, has scored four times in 15 Ligue 1 appearances for Monaco this season.
The striker is very much behind Radamel Falcao in the pecking order at his Ligue 1 club, but did appear in five of his team’s six Champions League group matches earlier this season.
The Argentine, who is valued at £5.4m by transfermarkt.co.uk, also managed a respectable eight goals in 31 appearances last term, which is impressive when considering that he largely comes off the bench for Monaco.
At 6ft 2inches, Carrillo would have no problem adapting to the physical nature of the Premier League, whilst he played under Southampton boss Pellegrino at Estudiantes.
Southampton ideally need three or four new players this month to boost the squad, but Carrillo would certainly be a step in the right direction, and the club’s fans should be excited about the prospect of the striker making the move to St Mary’s.
