da fezbet: According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly lining up a summer move for Leeds United target Dan James, and if true it would surely be a catastrophic blow to their chances of bringing him to Elland Road.
What’s the word, then?
Well, the Yorkshire club came close to signing the Wales international in a loan-to-buy deal worth £10m during the January transfer window before Swansea City pulled the plug on the deal.
Football Insider report that Leeds are still keen to buy the 21-year-old this summer, although their hopes of doing so depend on them winning promotion to the Premier League.
They certainly aren’t the only interested party though, and Football Insider say that Spurs want to add James to their squad as they search for ‘youthful homegrown talent’.
Catastrophic blow if true
It certainly would be.
Even if Leeds do win promotion, should Tottenham follow up their interest in the young Welshman it would be difficult to see them coming out on top in the chase for his signature.
The chance to work under Mauricio Pochettino in a brand new stadium would be difficult to turn down, and of course he would also have the chance to follow in national compatriot Gareth Bale’s footsteps with the north London club.
A move to the Yorkshire club can’t be completely ruled out if it comes down to a straight choice between them and Spurs, but it would surely be very unlikely.
Marcelo Bielsa and the size of Leeds means they are an attractive proposition, however a Premier League title challenge and Champions League football would surely tip James in favour of one move.
